*Frequently asked questions

digital object identifier (DOI) is a serial code used to uniquely identify objects. The DOI system is particularly used for electronic documents such as journal articles. The DOI system began in 2000. Digital Online Identifier (doi) basically consisted with Digital Library & Virtual Libraries and which are the storehouse of knowledge as they maintain the journalspublished articles, book and other knowledge resources available. However, with the advent of digital technology and Internet connectivity, the library scenario is changing fast. Digital technology, Internet connectivity and physical content can be dovetailed resulting in Digital LibraryDigital Library is a storehouse of Indexed ArticlesIndexed JournalsIndexed BooksIndexed Librariesand Other Indexing Objects and it is nothing but a cross reference system in which Digital online Identifier provide a doi no. for a particular object or article. Data available in physical form has been preserved digitally in Digital Library. The Digital Library is helping to develop an international strategy to collect, archive and preserve the burgeoning amounts of digital contents like journals, articles, books, conference proceedings for current and future generations. Virtual Library is basically storehouse of Lab Manual in various field and developed to collect, archive and preserve the burgeoning amounts of digital contents like Virtual BooksVirtual Animal Lab and Virtual Experimental Lab. It is used for providing the Digital Collections & Services, Web Capture and Archiving, Custodian Videos and for accessing to print, pictorial and audio-visual collections and other digital services like Virtual BooksVirtual Animal Lab and Virtual Experimental Lab. The Library’s commitment to providing digital access to materials of historical importance extends to content that exists only in digital form, including web sites. Custodian Videos is a video recording of an expert speaking about an item or collection of items on the DOIMetadata about the object is stored in association with the DOI name. It may include a location, such as a URL, where the object can be found.
Digital Libraries have the ability to enhance access to information and knowledge. They also Bridge barriers of time and space. In the past initiatives have been taken by different Ministries / Departments / organizations for digitizing and preserving data available in physical form. However, this activity has been restricted mostly in the area of the work / interest of the organization. Digital online Identifier (doi) basically is a data base system and essentially which deals with digital and virtual Library.

To participate in doi publishers must first allow their content to be indexed and included in the doi database. All doi members are encouraged to contribute to the database regardless of whether they decide to check submissions, as participation will benefit the doi Organization and will help prevent other publishers from unknowingly re-publishing your content. Each and every organization first of all to be registered through the member portal and if any user become a member of digital library, in that case each organization, journal, library will get a doi no. and after registration or detting membership they can easily create the doi no. of any objects or articles. Doi no. is the digital no., by which any one can trace or track the article or object by using this digital no.

Step two is to begin checking authored works against the database. This is done through the web-based system by uploading a document and running a similarity check against the doi database, and optionally the wider internet. doi is a set of results listing documents that share a significant degree of textual overlap with the target document.

Finally, we would encourage all participating publishers to display the doi logo on their websites and in their published documents to show their participation and to help deter would-be plagiarists from copying your content. At the same time we also display the logo of our valuable users or members with permission.

It can be any object, article, organization, publisher, library or entity — physical, digital or abstract — that you wish to identify, primarily for sharing with an interested user community or managing as intellectual property.

The doi does not have any rules on this.  As a general rule, if the change is substantial and/or it is necessary to identify both the original and the changed material, assign a new DOI name. If any one create a doi no. by entering the wrong data or want to change it, then in that case users should be create freshly, because the digital no. is created automatically and it would not be edited further.

You must use a service offered by a DOI-DS. Doi-ds collect metadata, assign DOI names, and offer other services such as reference linking or metadata lookup. Please Click here to be member of doi-digital library.

Content found on the DOI website is contributed by DOI it self and doi users. Copyright questions about users content should be directed to that members. When publishing or otherwise distributing materials found in a DOI users's collections, the researcher has the obligation to determine and satisfy domestic and international copyright law or other use restrictions. More information about copyright law in World Intellectual Property Organization member states can be found at http://www.wipo.int/about-ip/en. Many DOI items contain links to partner web sites, which contain information about intellectual property and re-use.

The DOI is used by anyone with an interest in the wider world. Any Publishers of journalsbooks & Conference proceedings, Library, Product owner, Author, Students, teachers, research scholars, Library, Organization or institute and the general public may approach it in different ways, but there is something of interest for everyone.

Any journals, books publishers, authors, library, museum, organization, archive or other institutions that has interesting historical and cultural content may participate.

Because institutions in many developing countries lack the hardware, software, and trained personnel to digitize content for inclusion in the doi  digital & Virtual Library and in other digital libraries, capacity building has been an important focus of the doi.

Any journals, books publishers, library, museum, organization, archive or other institution interested in becoming partners should contact to doi. The doi will work with prospective partners to identify collections for possible inclusion, survey existing projects and capacities, and develop plans for participation. Please Click here to view the registered users or members to doi-digital library and Please Click here to view the registered objects or articles doi no. enlisted in doi-digital library

The best way to get involved is to identify collections that represent a particular country or culture and to work with the doi team to have them included in the project. The starting point is content. We will be glad to provide information about volunteer opportunities and to discuss suggestions for the project with individuals who contact us. Please send you materials to be a part of doi virtual Library.

We are actively seeking more partner institutions, more contributions of content, and working to improve cataloging, translation, and other functions.

Content on the doi comes from publishers, libraries and other organization or institutions in any country.

The doi metadata, digitization, and file transfer standards were established by the doi-ds and its partners, with input from the doi working groups.

Partners with culturally important and interesting collections and digitization capacity are needed to expand and diversify the site. Some partners need equipment and training to participate, especially in the developing world. Significant contributions in the following areas would help to build the doi capacity and assure its growth. The challenge is to develop tools and procedures for the creation and processing of large volumes of content without compromising the quality (functionality, search ability, and user experience) of the website. Print and electronic publicity is needed to increase the visibility of the site and ensure that its content is widely used.

Doi virtual library books are hosted in doi site. There is a possibility that the server that your book is hosted on it is temporarily down. The doi server constantly checks the status of our host servers all over the world and updates their status if a server is down. We suggest that you try back the next day if you get this error message.

The amount of time it takes to download a page depends on the speed of your internet connection, the size of the contents or book and the location where it is hosted. Sometimes it can take a few minutes to download a page especially if the page is rich in graphics.
