A digital object identifier (DOI) is a serial code used to uniquely identify objects. The DOI system is particularly used for electronic documents such as journal articles. The DOI system began in 2000. Metadata about the object is stored in association with the DOI name. It may include a location, such as a URL, where the object can be found. Digital Online and Virtual Libraries are the storehouse of knowledge as they maintain the journals, published articles, book and other knowledge resources available. However, with the advent of digital technology and Internet connectivity, the library scenario is changing fast. Digital technology, Internet connectivity and physical content can be dovetailed resulting in Digital Library. Data available in physical form has been preserved digitally in Digital Library. Digital Libraries have the ability to enhance access to information and knowledge. They also Bridge barriers of time and space. In the past initiatives have been taken by different Ministries / Departments / organizations for digitizing and preserving data available in physical form. However, this activity has been restricted mostly in the area of the work / interest of the organization. Digital online Organization (doi) basically is a data base system and essentially which deals with digital and virtual Library.

Digital Library is a storehouse of Indexed ArticlesIndexed JournalsIndexed BooksIndexed Librariesand Other Indexing Objectsand it is nothing but a cross reference system in which Digital online Organization provide a doi no. for a particular object or article. The Digital Library is helping to develop an international strategy to collect, archive and preserve the burgeoning amounts of digital contents like journals, articles, books, conference proceedings for current and future generations.

Virtual Library is basically storehouse of Lab Manual in various field and developed to collect, archive and preserve the burgeoning amounts of digital contents like Virtual BooksVirtual Animal Lab and Virtual Experimental Lab. It is used for providing the Digital Collections & Services, Web Capture and Archiving, Custodian Videos and for accessing to print, pictorial and audio-visual collections and other digital services like Virtual BooksVirtual Animal Lab and Virtual Experimental Lab. The Library’s commitment to providing digital access to materials of historical importance extends to content that exists only in digital form, including web sites. Custodian Videos is a video recording of an expert speaking about an item or collection of items on the DOI.

Welcome to Doids

Dear All Publisher index your journal/books/conference and get a Doi no. for a cross reference the object any one can easily find out your object or track your article by single digital no.

digital object identifier (DOI) is a serial code used to uniquely identify objects. The DOI system is particularly used for electronic documents such as journal articles. The DOI system began in 2000. Metadata about the object is stored in association with the DOI name. It may include a location, such as a URL, where the object can be found. The DOI for a document remains fixed over the lifetime of the document, whereas its location and other metadata may change. Referring to an online document by its DOI provides more stable linking than simply referring to it by its URL, because if its URL changes, the publisher only needs to update the metadata for the DOI to link to the new URL. A DOI name differs from standard identifier registries such as the ISBN and ISRC. The purpose of an identifier registry is to manage a given collection of identifiers, whereas the primary purpose of the DOI system is to make a collection of identifiers actionable and interoperable. Organizations that meet the contractual obligations of the DOI system and are willing to pay to become a member of the system can assign DOIs.

Digital Online Identifier (doi) is a special library with a focused collection of digital objects that can include text, visual material, audio material, video material, stored as electronic media formats (as opposed to print, microform, or other media), along with means for organizing, storing, and retrieving the files and media contained in the library collection. Digital libraries can vary immensely in size and scope, and can be maintained by individuals, organizations, or affiliated with established physical library buildings or institutions, or with academic institutions. The electronic content may be stored locally, or accessed remotely via computer networks. An electronic library is a type of information retrieval system. The Digital Library is a robust and diverse community of practitioners who advance research, learning, social justice, and the public good through the creative design and wise application of digital library technologies. DOI serves as a resource and catalyst for collaboration among archives, libraries and library service organizations, publishers, labs, museums, professional organizations, vendors, and all who are invested in digital library issues.

The doi makes it possible to discover, study, and enjoy cultural treasures and significant historical documents on one site, in a variety of ways. Content on the doi includes books, manuscripts, maps, newspapers, journals, prints and photographs, sound recordings, and films.

Doi items can be browsed by place, time, topic, type of item, language, and contributing institution. The search feature can be used to search all of the metadata and descriptions and the full text of printed books on the site.

Each item on the doi is accompanied by an item-level description that explains its significance and historical context. Additional information about selected items is provided by curator videos. Other features include advanced image-viewing, timelines, interactive maps, and in-depth thematic sections on selected topics (in preparation).
